Corpus Christi, TX Proud
At the Better Weigh Center our program is committed to helping our patients be successful before, during and AFTER surgery. From the moment you make that first call, you will be treated with the dignity and respect you deserve. You will never feel like “just one of the crowd” in our clinic. Our team of professionals will be there every step of the way to make sure your weight loss journey is as smooth, worry free and as successful as possible.
Dr. Stegemann is an experienced surgeon and a leader in the field of metabolic and bariatric surgery not just on the state level, but on the national level as well. He is passionate about helping people regain their health through safe and effective weight loss. Dr. Stegemann is committed to providing compassionate, state-of-the-art care to his patients in a friendly, non-judgmental fashion. What really sets Dr. Stegemann apart from other surgeons in the region, however, is that he actually lives in Corpus Christi. This means he is available to care for his patients locally if they should have any issues that arise after surgery. Not only is this important and convenient for patients, in some situations it can mean the difference between life and death. Imagine being cared for by a surgeon in an emergency situation that has never done weight loss surgery? Unfortunately this is all too often a reality when patients seek out care from remote programs.
What also makes our program different from others is our crystal clear understanding that surgery alone does not produce long-term success and our commitment to your success after your operation. Most weight loss surgery programs profess to believe that lifestyle change is important after surgery but then fail to provide the structure that can create that change. At the Better Weigh Center we take our understanding of this to an entire different level. This is why we have committed extensive time and resources to develop an aftercare program that focuses directly on the dietary, fitness, and behavioral changes necessary to equip you with the skills to make your weight loss success last a lifetime. And since we live here in Corpus Christi, it’s easier for you to take advantage of all that our program offers!
Finally, there is a Better Weigh in Corpus Christi……
The American Society For Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) is the largest society for this specialty in the world. Founded in 1983, the society works to advance the art and science of bariatric and metabolic surgery.
Dr. Stegemann is an active member in the organization and has held several key leadership posts.
We often look at success as being a struggle or fight to the very end. Some can view that success as important as climbing Mount Everest, or winning first place in a world competition. This high emphasis on enduring hardship for success can also be limiting.
Your mental health is just as important to us as your physical health. Our behavioral health team works with you to identify your individual eating triggers and to develop strategies to help you manage them. They are also there to help you cope with the emotional changes that can occur with significant weight loss.
Protein, Fats, and Carbs! Oh my! Not to worry, our bariatric trained dietician will help you sort out the conflicting and confusing information out there to develop a dietary plan specific to you. We believe in the concept of creating a “Sustainable Lifestyle” when it comes to eating habits. You won’t hear “Don’t ever eat that again!” in our clinic!
While this can be the most frustrating part for patients, our experienced staff will help you through the process. We will quickly and efficiently check your insurance policy to make sure you have bariatric surgery benefits and let you know the requirements of your insurance company. If you don’t have insurance coverage, we will work with you to find alternate means to pay for your surgery.
Every patient is assigned a dedicated advocate with experience in helping patients through the process. Your patient advocate will help you schedule appointments and answer questions about where you are in the process.
